Rest, nurture and quiet

Grief Retreats

For women carrying grief who need quiet, nurturing and space to simply be. Step away from daily demands and spend time resting, reflecting, or sitting quietly in peaceful surrounds. There is no pressure to talk, join in, or be anything other than where you are.

What these weekends feel like

Calm, nurturing and unhurried

Every program is held in a safe, supportive environment where you can slow down and begin to feel like yourself again. Stays include nourishing meals, time in nature, and the privacy that comes with welcoming a small group at any one time.

We are a registered Australian charity offering restorative experiences for women who need space to rest, reflect and reconnect. We are not a clinical service or crisis refuge, and we don’t try to be. Instead, we offer a nurturing environment where you can find calm and the freedom to simply be.

Nourishing meals are included, with the option to eat privately or with others. Small groups keep the pace gentle and unhurried, and you’ll find warm, human communication at every step.

We intentionally keep our workshops small to create a supportive and nurturing experience. As a result, workshops require a minimum number of bookings to proceed. If we don’t reach those numbers, we’ll contact you as early as possible to discuss alternative options, including another workshop, a personal stay, or a full refund.

You don't have to be brave to come
Many women arrive unsure they can do this, with shaky hands or a quiet voice saying they’re not ready. You don’t need to be strong, and you don’t need the right words. Fear is a natural part of grief, and it’s welcome here alongside you.
Stay quiet for as long as you need
There’s no expectation to speak, share, or explain anything before you’re ready. You can sit in a circle and simply listen, or step away and breathe on your own. Your pace is the right pace.
Among women who understand
Grief can feel isolating, as though no one quite grasps what you’re carrying. Here you’re among women who know the weight of loss in its many forms, from bereavement to relationship endings to quieter changes that still ache. You won’t have to hold it alone.
Space to grieve not to fix it
Grief doesn’t need to be solved or hurried along. These retreats give it room to soften and settle in its own time, with rest, reflection, and gentle company. Nothing is compulsory and nothing is performative.

Who this supports

Women carrying loss in its many forms

These retreats are for women living with grief, whether it’s fresh or long held quietly inside. Loss takes many shapes, from bereavement to relationship endings, identity shifts, illness, family rupture or the slow weight of cumulative change. Whatever form yours takes, your presence is welcome here.

You don’t need to explain your grief or understand it fully to come. Our tone and environment are intentionally gentle, so you can move at your own pace from the moment you enquire.

Emotional safety

Supportive, not clinical

Women’s Healing Sanctuary offers a calm, emotionally safe space where grief can soften and settle in its own time. We don’t promise to fix or resolve what you’re carrying. We offer privacy, understanding and the company of women who understand, at a pace that respects where you are.

We are not a crisis or emergency service. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent support, please call 000 or Lifeline on 13 11 14. Our purpose is to create the conditions where rest and gentle grieving are possible, in your own time.

Frequently asked questions

What if I'm scared to come, or worried it will be too much?

That worry is something many women feel before they arrive, and it’s completely natural. You don’t need to be brave or strong, and you don’t need to have the right words. You can take everything at your own pace, step back whenever you need to, and rest as much as you like. Fear often means you’re standing at the doorway of something gentle, not that you aren’t ready.

No. There’s no expectation to speak, share or explain anything before you’re ready. You’re welcome to sit in a circle and simply listen, or step away and breathe on your own. Many women find that having the choice makes it easier to be there at all.
Grief takes many forms, and all of them are welcome here. Women come carrying bereavement, relationship endings, identity transitions, illness or health changes, family estrangement, career and life-path shifts, or the cumulative weight of several losses at once. Whether your grief is fresh or has been held quietly for a long time, your presence is welcome.

No, the retreats are not clinical therapy and we don’t offer cures or breakthroughs. They’re a calm, emotionally safe space where grief can soften and settle in its own time, with rest, reflection and the company of women who understand. We are also not a crisis or emergency service. If you need urgent support, please call 000 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Each retreat balances unstructured rest with optional guided sessions, circles and quiet reflection. Depending on the program, this may include creative expression, guided reflection, ritual and time simply to pause. You choose how much you join in and when to step back. Nothing is compulsory and nothing is performative.
